Itinerary
-
You will be ready by 8 am. We will take you to the beautiful relic built by the Incas, Sacsayhuaman; here, you will contemplate a magnificent sample of Inca architecture and glimpse the most imposing stone that remains in any Inca archaeological site.
Later we will move to the Sacred Valley. We will visit Awanacancha, a textile center, and an alpaca farm on the way. Here you will appreciate the distinctions between llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and guanacos and the various varieties of potatoes and corn, unique to the Sacred Valley.
Next, we will head to the archaeological complex of Pisaq. We will see hundreds of agricultural terraces where the Incas cultivated corn, potatoes, and quinoa. The religious and astronomical aspects of the Incas will be evident in the vicinity of this point.
Afterward, we will descend to the Pisaq market, the most authentic handicraft market. You will have the opportunity to sample some of the local delicacies during our lunch, and then we will drive through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo. At this Inca checkpoint, they guarded Machu Picchu from any enemy. This is the best example of an intact Inca village, with its streams running through its picturesque streets. Your tour guide will settle you in at the hotel before the next dinner.
-
Your guide will pick you up at 8 am. Then we will head to the Salineras de Maras (salt mine), a place for local salt production, processing, and export. The water filters down the mountainside and is owned by local farmers, and these clusters have become the main economic activity for all the locals.
After the mines, we will head to the Moray Archaeological Center. The Incas used this site of Moray as a laboratory to study agriculture, build terraces, and experiment with different types of vegetables and tubers. You will notice the difference in microclimate in Cusco.
Then we will head to Chincheros, where we will see some Inca terraces, used as the perfect place to grow various potatoes. The entire Inca civilization got their potato supply from here. We will also see a unique colonial church built by the Spanish on top of the Inca palace. Finally, we will visit a textile center.
We will return to Ollantaytambo to catch the afternoon train to Aguas Calientes, where you can enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants and prepare for the next Machupicchu day tour.
